Spirit of Peoria Sightseeing Cruise
These cruises are an hour and a quarter-long and run 2 to 5 times a week. They begin and end at the riverfront dock in downtown Peoria, with the Spirit cruising up and down the Illinois River.
Kids and adults alike will be fascinated by the boat’s tall fluted stacks and gigantic candy-apple red paddlewheel churning through the water. It’s great entertainment for all ages. Trip includes Captain’s Commentary. Gift shop and concessions are available.

Celebrate 75 Years with Little Golden Books
Celebrate 75 Years of Little Golden Books at Peoria Public Library September 30
Peoria Public Library will join in the nationwide celebration of the 75th year of Little Golden Books with September displays by collector Rick Everetts and on Saturday, September 30, an event starring Leonard S. Marcus, author of Golden Legacy: The Story of Golden Books, and Diane Muldrow, editorial director at Golden Books and author of Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book.
The free program will take place at Main Library in the Auditorium at 2:00 p.m. Poky Little Puppy himself will be in attendance and available for photo opportunities. Readers are encouraged to start looking for well-loved and most read Little Golden Books along with photos of your family enjoying Little Golden Books to bring and share at our afternoon program. Those participating will be entered into a prize drawing if you do.
Those attending the program will also see the display by Rick Everetts featuring Little Golden Books and memorabilia. Displays will be at Main Library and North Branch from September 1 to 30 during regular library hours.
Leonard S. Marcus is one of the world’s most respected historians of children’s books and the people who create them. A frequent contributor to the New York Times Book Review and the Horn Book Magazine, Marcus has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, ABC’s Good Morning America, and BBC Radio 4. He is a founding trustee of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and is the curator of landmark exhibitions at the New York Public Library and elsewhere.
Diane Muldrow, an editorial director at Golden Books with an outstanding knowledge of the Golden Books oeuvre and a prolific children’s book author, edited Golden Legacy: The Story of Golden Books. She is the author of the New York Times bestseller Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book and several companion editions, including the 2017 release Everything I Need to Know About Family I Learned From a Little Golden Book.
Both authors will have books for sale and signing. Mark your calendar now and watch for more information about this grand Little Golden Books celebration at Peoria Public Library.
